KEITH BROCKIE Keith Brockie is a wildlife artist and illustrator whose work shows a unique attention to detail and a huge sympathy and understanding for his subjects. He firmly believes that nothing can compare to sketching in the field, and spends many hours studying his models through his telescope, portraying them as they really are. Perhaps one of the most notable trademarks of Keith's work is the way in which he replicates the eyes of the animals and birds, the exceptional vibrancy makes every creature live and breathe. |
| MOST RECENT Keith has recently completed the artwork for the book Rural Portraits, Scottish Native Farm Animals, Characters & Landscapes, written by his partner, Polly Pullar. A phenomenal achievement, he has portrayed each of Scotland's native breeds in typical habitat, something that has never been done before. This has been a totally new departure for Keith, and he has also included some portraits of a few of the characters as well as pictures of much of the wildlife and landscape encountered on their journey. |
His greatest joy is simply being a part of the natural world, quietly observing and recording from a respectful distance. He finds that the challenges, elations and frustrations of working with wildlife all add to the immense overall pleasure. Keith's knowledge of wildlife has been built on his deep passion for the subject, and began when as a child he biked around the countryside close to his homes in East Lothian and Fife, filling endless sketchbooks with detailed field studies and copious observations. A bird ringer and dedicated field naturalist, for the past 20 years he has monitored and ringed ospreys and has done a great deal to help them with their successful repopulation of Scotland. Never one to admit defeat, he has admirably waged a constant war on egg thieves, and once became so incensed by the continual failure of a particular pair of ospreys, that he employed the skills of the 45 Marine Commando from Condor, Arbroath, to successfully help him catch one persistent criminal. Keith's painting has taken him all over the world and he has been involved with artist's and environmental projects in places as wide apart as:
In addition: His paintings have been widely exhibited. | ||
